Welcome !

January 2001 welcomed to the SYNDESMOS Secretariat Evangelia Tsavou-Lases as the new Assistant Secretary. Evangelia has had a wealth of experience in SYNDEMOS-related activities. Born in 1971 in Piraeus, Greece, she studied in the Business Administration Department of the University of Piraeus. Having followed the Seminar for Catechists of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece, she has been working since 1989 as a youth worker in her local parish.

In 1991 she became member of the Student and Scientist Christian Association (SSCA) and was annually elected as its Secretary General from 1994-8. Through SSCA, and thanks to her position on its International Affairs Committee, she met SYNDESMOS, and since then, has been involved as a participant in many SYNDESMOS event around the world: USA, Holy Land, Poland, Cyprus, Greece..., and at times as a resource person too.

"SYNDESMOS has deeply affected my life, my way of thinking and the way I understand the Orthodox reality. I certainly didn't need to think twice, when I was offered the position of Assistant Secretary", says Evangelia.

Since 1999, Evangelia has been married to Jeroen Lases (former Secretary General of Syndesmos-Netherlands) and they live in Athens. It may interest some readers to know that she met her husband for the first time as a participant in the SYNDESMOS Summer Institute in Suprasl, Poland, in 1995. Apart from her work in the Secretariat, she is still active with her favourite hobby - traditional Greek dancing. After a long period of participation in a number of dance groups (since the age of 8), Evangelia is now teaching traditional Greek dancing to children and youth groups.
