Newly elected SYNDESMOS Secretary-General Rebecca Hookway and Deputy
Secretary-General Bohumil Voprsalek
began their duties at the General Secretariat in mid-January 2000.
The office was relocated from Bialystok, Poland to Athens at the end
of February 2000.
REGIONS
Three regional meetings have taken place since the XVI General Assembly:
Western Europe, Central Europe and
Northern Europe.
MEMBERS
Hildo Bos, SYNDESMOS Vice-President, was elected President of SYNDESMOS
Nederlands in December 1999.
Two applications for member-ship were received and presented to the
Board of Administration at its November 1999. Applica-tions were received
from the Serbian Orthodox Youth Asso-ciation in Western Europe, Ger-many,
and the Youth Union of Jirvezh, Armenia.
CHRONICLE
Vladimir Misijuk, outgoing SYNDESMOS Secretary-Gen-eral, represented
SYNDESMOS at the Council of European
Churches Conference, "Europe after the Kosovo Crisis: Implica-tions
for the Churches," in Oslo, Norway, in November 1999.
Bohumil Voprsalek, SYN-DESMOS Deputy Secretary-Gen-eral, participated
in the CEC-CCEE planning group meeting in
Baar, Switzerland 10-12 Decem-ber 1999. The meeting was held to prepare
for the European Ecumenical Encounter 2001,
slated to be held in Spring 2001 in Thessalonika, Greece.
Cornelius Gulere-Wambi, SYNDESMOS Africa Region Rep-resentative, led
a youth seminar for the Bukoba Diocese in
Tanzania, Africa 31 January- 4 February, 2000.
Joseph Matusiak, former Administrative Assistant at the SYNDESMOS
General Secre-tariat, and Hildo Bos, SYN-DESMOS
Vice-President, represented SYNDESMOS at the meeting of the World
Council of Churches' Youth Advisory Committee in Geneva, Switzer-land
16-23 February 2000.
MILESTONES
Vladimir Misijuk, former SYNDESMOS General Secre-tary, concluded his
four-year tenure on 1 March 2000. We thank him for his dedicated commitment
to the work of SYNDESMOS at the General Secretariat and we wish him
a fruitful - and restful! - break before he embarks upon his next
mission.
Father Anastasios Bouran-tos, North American Region Representative,
was recently assigned Pastor of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church,
Wil-mington, Delaware, USA after serving as Youth Director of the
Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America since 1997.
Anastasia Moussatova, former Administrative Assistant at the SYNDESMOS
General Secretariat, resigned her position
effective 31 January 2000 and returned to her home in Moscow, Russia,
where she is working as a free-lance interpreter.
o Father John Matusiak, Editor of SYNDESMOS News and former Vice-President,
celebrated the 25th Anniversary of his ordination and his 50th birthday
in January 2000. He was awarded the Order of Saint Innocent, the highest
honor given by the Orthodox Church in America.
