Assembly adopts fourteen proposals

During the General Assembly, a number of proposals were made to the delegates.
The following fourteen proposals were adopted by the Assembly.

1. All regions will create regional SYNDESMOS committees. This proposal should be implemented immediately after the Assembly. The regional representative will be in charge of forming and moderating the committee.

2. At the next General Assembly time should be devoted to Biblical reflection and time should also be allocated to reports from the member movements [affiliated, associated and federated] on their activities.

3. SYNDESMOS will implement in the next quadriennium Study Exchange programmes between youth movements and theological schools. These study exchanges should take place both between the Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Churches and different SYNDESMOS regions.

4. The Board should examine the means of organising or participating in events for the celebration of the year 2000 as an opportunity for mission and spiritual renewal.

5. A list of priorities should be established by the Board before fund-raising to avoid any disproportionate attention that has been given to any practical project or group of projects.

6. The fiscal year is to be determined for SYNDESMOS starting the 1 July of each year and ending 30 June.

7. The outgoing Board should be responsible for settling the accounts until the date of the election of the new board and submitting these accounts to the new Auditors for approval. All accounts should be in accordance with the international accounting and accepted principles and the Auditors should submit to the Board recommendations in this respect.

8. The accounts of SYNDESMOS should differentiate between designated donations and grants received for a particular project or purpose and undesignated grants and donations that can be used by the Board for any purpose, including administrative and office expenses.

9. The accounts should be prepared and audited yearly and distributed to the member movements through the regional representatives.

10. In order to achieve better communication with and among member movements, emphasis should be placed on the new technologies, such as the internet, e-mail, updated databases, and address lists.

11. This assembly should adopt the XV SYNDESMOS General Assembly report and its resolutions for action in the next four years.

12. One SYNDESMOS vice-president is to be responsible for missionary work and a worldwide commission of missionary work is to be re-established.

13. The members of SYNDESMOS, especially in Africa, Asia and other less wealthy regions, should be helped financially in order to participate in SYNDESMOS events.

14. SYNDESMOS should ensure that young people [under the age of 35] are adequately represented at the General Assembly. The proportion of young people should not be less than 2/3 of the participants under any circumstances. The Board should establish rules to implement these recommendations.
